Minister Has to Call in Processors & Retailers on Beef Price

Following a meeting with the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed today, IFA President Joe Healy said the Minister has to immediately call in the processors and retailers and tell them that the beef price to farmers has to improve.

“We had a clear message for the Minister: it’s time for him to stand up for farmers. The beef price index, for which the Minister himself took plenty of credit, shows the 21c/kg gap that has opened up between our price and the price in our main markets.”

“Farmers are at their wits end and they need the Minister on the pitch immediately before ‘price- setting Friday,” he said.
