Spring Lamb Prices Open Strongly – IFA
With very few spring lambs available and hoggets making €5.60/kg, IFA National Sheep Committee Chairman James Murphy said spring lamb prices need to make at least €1.00/kg over hogget prices.
The IFA sheep farmers’ leader said new season lambs made €133 – €235 in marts this week, which is the equivalent to €6.65/kg carcase weight at 20kgs.
James Murphy pointed out that new season lamb is a top quality prime product and the cost of production are significantly higher this year compared to last year because of higher feed, fertiliser and fuel costs.
James Murphy said the processors needed to send a positive signal to early lamb producers on prices for spring lamb.
