There was no change in Irish pig prices last Friday following the 4c/kg drop the previous Friday by four processing plants. Farmers now receiving quotes of €2.02c/kg up to €2.10/kg from processing plants in Ireland.
The weekly throughput figure for fatteners for week ending 6th of February was 68,728 of which 1,697 were sows.
There are green shoots evident this week again from other European member states. Pig supply is tightening. German pig price increased 8c/kg, Belgium +10c/kg, France +6c/kg, Spain +4c/kg, Netherlands +4c/kg. In Germany, the internet pig auction showed a development last Friday with an average price of 2.32 € (+16 c compared with the auction on Tuesday).
IFA will hold a National Pig Farmer Meeting on Thursday 9th of February. We have had two 4c drops in the month of January in four of the main processors. This, according to Teagasc has pushed the average family farm back to negative margins of circa €18/pig sold.
The average European Pig Price for week 4 was €2.02/kg.
