As the weather has improved and the ground has begun to dry, growers are finally beginning work to progress towards plantings. Plantings are a few weeks behind schedule due to the very wet spring experienced to date. There are continued reports that stocks are tightening following recent exports to the continent. Trade for the peeling markets remain buoyant with strong prices reported accordingly.
Rain across Northern Europe has delayed planting again this week. Combined with below average temperatures, it has caused buyers in the processing sector to return to the market to secure supplies for the April to July period. In parts of the U.K. strong winds have caused some damage to crops last week. Plantings are very slow with only a few days opportunity to plant maincrop to date.
