PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Update 19th July

Consumption and sales remain buoyant as stocks become increasingly tight. Demand for new season Queens remains strong, with prices holding accordingly. Over 70% of Queens are now cleared in the southeast. More Queens should be available in the northeast of the country in the coming weeks. Rainfall has helped main season Rooster crops, however, they are still significantly behind schedule. Blight pressure is conducive to current weather conditions.

Across Europe, high prices are being quoted for any remaining old season stock and factories are preparing for new season crops. The first areas of planted material have been published this week and it is reported that there is a move away from seed and starch production.

In the UK, tuber count has been variable, and some crops have “run out of steam”. Heavy rain last week in parts of Suffolk has slowed skin set and delayed loading “by a week”.
