Dairy Farmers Must Exercise Caution in Planning Production
IFA National Dairy Committee Chairman Kevin Kiersey has urged dairy farmers to exercise prudence in planning production, to avoid financially crippling superlevy fines.
He said, “IFA is totally committed to continue working with like-minded farm organisations in Europe to find solutions before 2015. However, this is proving slow and difficult as the vast majority of member states, including France and Germany, are totally opposed to it.”
Mr Kiersey called on Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney to work urgently with his European colleagues to make progress on this issue.
“In the meantime, it is crucial for Irish dairy farmers that they would avoid financially crippling 28c/l superlevy fines by matching as closely as possible their production with quota,” he concluded.
