Pig Market Update 9th October

There was a further 6c/kg drop in Irish pig price on Friday last in ROI processors with producers reporting quotes ranging from €2.14 – €2.19 available from processors in ROI. Prices in Northern Ireland and the UK are still strong, as they have been for the first 9 months of the year. The Standard Pig Price in the UK reported by AHDB currently is £2.05/kg (€2.45/kg).

As reported to Ahdb geopolitical and weather risks remain a concern at the start of this week. Dry conditions in key winter wheat regions of Russia and the U.S. contributed to a rise in wheat prices yesterday. Meanwhile, forecasts of heavy rain in France keep weather risks in focus for winter wheat planting. The rising wheat prices, along with tenders from importers like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Japan, continue to support physical prices.European rapeseed prices rose yesterday, in contrast to falling soybean prices. This increase seems to have been driven in part by rising crude oil prices, as U.S. WTI crude oil futures for November 2024 climbed 3.7% from Friday’s close.
