Pig Market Update 16th October

There was no change to Irish pig prices on Friday last. Producers are reporting quotes ranging from €2.14 – €2.18 available from processors in ROI. Prices in Northern Ireland and the UK are still strong, as they have been for the first 9 months of the year. The Standard Pig Price in the UK reported by AHDB currently is £2.05/kg (€2.45/kg).

In ROI the throughput for week ending the 13th of October was 64,034 of which 1,711 were sows.

Bord Bia’s export performance of primal Irish pigmeat for the period January to August shows an increase in the value and volume of our exports by 5% when compared with the same period the previous year.  If we focus on the past six months, for the period March to August, we can see from the data that pigmeat exports  have increased in value by 6%, while the volume of those exports have increased by 7%.

On the EU feed ingredient market, according to Agritel,  European markets are adjusting prices due to a weaker Euro, but EU prices remain less competitive than Russian origins. Concerns are growing over Russian export policies and tensions at Ukrainian ports. Grain prices declined slightly. Weather-related delays are affecting French harvests and sowing, and rapeseed prices dipped ahead of contract expirations.
