MEPs Amendments on Deforestation Regulation Will Help Simplify Implementation on Irish Farms
IFA President Francie Gorman has said the outcome of this morning’s vote by MEPs in Brussels to endorse the simplification of the EU Deforestation Regulation was important.
“While the objective of the Regulation is logical, the implementation of it at farm level was going to be onerous and potentially very bureaucratic for farmers. Today’s amendments should pave the way for a more streamlined application of the regulation at farm level in Ireland,” he said.
The introduction of an additional category of “Zero Risk” was important as it should help to simplify the requirements for farmers.
Francie Gorman complimented the work done by the IFA office in Brussels and said that he hopes the discussions within the Environment Committee in the Parliament and in the Council will allow ratification of this outcome before year end.
IFA will be continuing our direct dialogue with DAFM on this matter to ensure that it is implemented in a farmer friendly manner.
