IFA Reaction to Ratification of Michael McGrath to EU Commission

IFA President Francie Gorman has congratulated Michael McGrath on his ratification as Ireland’s EU Commissioner in the new EU Commission. 

The new Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, was officially voted in by the European Parliament this morning.

The IFA President said it’s very important that Ireland has a strong voice at the EU Commission table.

“There are significant decisions ahead that will impact on farming and we need a strong voice to contribute to the discussions,” he said.

“Michael McGrath has always been accessible during his time as a Minister and we look forward to working with him in his new role,” he said.

Francie Gorman also wished outgoing Commissioner Mairead McGuinness well for the future.

“Mairead McGuinness has a deep insight into farming issues and was always available to meet with Irish farmers. We wish her well in the future,” he said.
