Big Push to Join Beef Discussion Groups – IFA
IFA National Livestock Committee Chairman Henry Burns strongly encouraged livestock farmers to sign up for participation in the new Beef Discussion Group Programme which is set to close next Wednesday March 7th.
Henry Burns said livestock farmers should have nothing to fear from getting involved in a producer group and everything to gain.
The IFA livestock leader said, “The real benefits of joining a Discussion Group will be reflected in increased profitability and output as well as learning from other farmers. The Discussion Group concept is very well proven with the Teagasc/Farmers’ Journal Better Farm Programme delivering an increase in gross margins from €350/ha to over €850/ha in 3 years.”
Henry Burns said based on meetings IFA has held across the country in Carlow, Laois, Galway, Westmeath, Longford and Leitrim in the last two weeks, there is huge interest among livestock farmers in joining a Discussion Group and a very positive response.
Following a meeting with the Director of Teagasc Gerry Boyle this week, Henry Burns said Teagasc are also reporting a positive response from farmers to the Beef Discussion Programme and anticipating a large volume of applications from farmers in the coming days.
