IFA Poster Campaign at Ploughing Highlights Urgent Issues for Minister
Visitors to the National Ploughing Championships over the next three days will see posters on all routes highlighting urgent issues the Minister for Agriculture must deal with.
IFA President Tim Cullinan said the posters will cover a range of issues, including the delay in farm scheme payments; the proposed cut in the Nitrates derogation limit, problems with the new beef suckler scheme; support for sheep farmers; the mess in the forestry sector and support for the tillage sector.
Tim Cullinan said some of these issues could be addressed in next month’s Budget, or more urgently.
“At a time when the Government has a significant surplus at its disposal, there is a need to support the farming sector, particularly low-income enterprises.”
“The focus of our interaction with politicians in the coming days will be on the decisions that are needed to maintain the viability of farming,” he said.
Tim Cullinan extended an invitation to all to come and visit the IFA Stand at the Ploughing Championships. “We’re at Row 19, no 316 beside NPA headquarters. Drop in to meet our officers over the three days,” he said.
