Demand for Potatoes Remains Strong in Run Up to Christmas
Demand has remained strong in the run up to Christmas. Unfortunately, a number of retailers have recently discounted potatoes this week as they jostle for customer football. This should have a negligible effect on the overall market going forward into January.
The overall facts remain unchanged regarding lower production levels in Ireland and across north western Europe. Many growers have received enquiries this week regarding buyers trying to secure supplies for the coming months. This lower tonnage is reflected in the European futures price which is €100/tonne higher than in December 2015.
