Eu Commission Invites IFA Onto New Eu Sheep Reflection Group

IFA National Sheep Chairman John Lynskey said the EU Commission has invited the IFA, as the representative body for sheep farmers in Ireland, to participate on a new Reflection Group being established in Brussels to examine the future of the sheep meat sector.

John Lynskey said the new EU group presents a real opportunity to address the shortcomings in the sheep policy area. He said ”This is a welcome development and provides an opportunity for the Minister for Agriculture and the EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan to make progress and secure a viable future for sheep farmers.”

The IFA sheep Chairman said the EU Group will consist of representative bodies covering sheep production, processing and trade. The group is set to meet in three conference sessions from November 2015 until June 2016. It will focus on the perspectives and challenges for the EU sheep sector, on trade and supply issues and on the policy tools for the sector.
