FMP Farm Discussions
Liquid Milk “In or Out”
In 2018 FMP negotiated and communicated the current five-year agreement governing the supply of liquid milk, the LMSA. Within this agreement FMP negotiated a liquid retirement scheme which provided an opportunity for FMP suppliers to re-evaluate their liquid milk business. Approximately 250 FMP suppliers took this opportunity to avail of this liquid milk exit package and transition to manufacturing supply. Many of these suppliers have been in expansion mode since 2015 and without the opportunity to expand in liquid significantly, along with many other contributing factors, felt it was the right decision to make for their farming business.
In light of these significant changes that have occurred, and are ongoing on FMP members farms in recent times, FMP have organised an on-farm event to incorporate two discussions, on both a farm that has exited liquid and one that remains supplying liquid milk.
FMP members Paul and Robbie Ennis, located just outside Kildare Town, remain suppling liquid milk, while Shane O’Loughlin, situated 10km away outside Monasterevin, has exited liquid and is fully focused on spring-based manufacturing milk. Both the O’Loughlin and Ennis families have kindly agreed to host FMP members for on-farm discussions on Thursday 2nd September. Facilitated by Richard O’Brien, Teagasc-Glanbia future farm programme manager, the day will focus on both the reasons for being “In or Out” of liquid and the challenges of both farm operations.
With current Covid-19 guidlines fully adhered to during this outdoor farm event and also for dinning in the hotel afterwards would ask that you confirm attendance in advance of traveling with the FMP secretary, Robert Malone in advance:
