IFA Encourages Farmers to Consider Entering the RDS Forestry Awards 2025

IFA National Farm Forestry Chair Padraig Stapleton is encouraging farmers to enter the RDS Forestry Awards 2025 which aims to recognise and reward farmers that have adopted climate-smart agricultural practices.

The deadline for applications is 12pm on Monday, September 9, 2024 and application forms are available to download here.

He said that there are four prize categories for the awards – Silvicultural Excellence Award, Teagasc Farm Forestry Award, Community Woodlands Award and Native Woodland Conservation Award, which provide options to interested farmers.

“The range in categories give an opportunity to promote the economic, environmental and social benefits of good forestry and farming. From magnificent historic woodlands to innovative commercial forests, the awards reveal inspiring examples of the benefits and diversity of forestry in Ireland,” Padraig Stapleton said.

Donegal IFA Farm Forestry representative and 2024 winner of the Production Forestry award, Ross Buchanan said that the awards are an opportunity for farmers to showcase active management practices and how they integrated forestry into their farm.

“There is a range of opportunities within the different award categories to suit the diversity of ownerships and woodland types on the island as a whole,” Ross Buchanan said.
