IFA Critical of Attack on Lamb Prices
IFA National Sheep Committee Chairman James Murphy said the sustained attack on lamb prices by the factories over the last three weeks was sending a very negative signal to sheep farmers.
James Murphy accused the factories of double speak. He said “on the one hand, factories are telling farmers they must expand and produce more lamb, while on the other hand they are hammering down prices”.
James Murphy said earlier this week lambs were making €5.30 – €5.40/kg. He said the cut in prices was resulting in farmers looking at the options on breeding and store lambs.
