Beef Update
IFA Livestock Chairman Brendan Golden said that the beef price is strengthening but it still has a long way to go to close the gap of 46c/kg demonstrated on the Bord Bia Price Tracker.
“Factory prices must start to reflect the capacity in the market place for stronger beef prices to close the gap with prices in Irelands key export markets” he said.
He said factory prices are showing signs of strengthening this week but more must be done to reflect the input costs increases currently being experienced by farmers.

Sheep Update
IFA Sheep Chairman Kevin Comiskey said strengthening lamb prices have a long way to go to offset production costs on farms.
He said factories and Bord Bia must do more in the market place to reflect costs on farms and return more of the price available in the French market where prices have remained solid at in and around €8/kg.
“This time last year our prices were within a €1/kg of French prices, with the gap now almost €2/kg.
This is not sustainable” he said.
Lambs are currently making from €6.30 to €6.50/kg on weights to 23kgs. Higher deals are available for groups and larger lots. Cull ewes are making €2.90 to €3.50/kg.
