Beef & Sheep Update 7th February
Beef Update
IFA Livestock chairman Brendan Golden said beef prices continue to edge upwards.
He said €4.30/kg base price is the starting point for steers.
Heifers are starting at €4.35/kg and most factories paying €4.40/kg when pushed.
Cows are a strong trade ranging from €3.65/kg to €4.10/kg.
Young bulls are ranging from €4.30/kg to €4.45/kg for R/U grades.
The IFA Livestock committee chairman said market conditions are strong and steady in our key export markets.
He said that factories must push on prices to reflect the increased production costs beef farmers are facing.

Sheep Update
IFA Sheep committee chairman Kevin Comiskey said factory agents are very busy in marts this week as supplies of finished lamb remains tight.
He said factory prices have strengthened over the course of the week with the majority of hoggets now pushing to €7.00/kg with deals to €7.10/kg particularly for groups and larger lots.
Demand for cull ewes is strong, prices are ranging from €3.30/kg to €3.50/kg.
Kevin Comiskey said lambs/hoggets have performed well over the past number of weeks and as supplies move through the system earlier it is expected numbers will tighten further in the coming weeks.
He said market conditions for sheep meat are strong and farmers should sell hard while moving hoggets as they become fit.
