Digging continues nationwide with many growers finished their harvest. Growers are reported to be reasonably happy with the harvest so far which has been made easier with excellent weather and ground conditions experienced.
The growers that have finished harvesting their potatoes have reported to be disappointed with yield but reasonably happy with quality. Yield was expected to fall dramatically on previous years during the drought period when growth ceased and secondary growths became a problem, however growers have reported that yields are on irrigated crops are lower than expected while yields on non irrigated crops on heavier ground are higher than expected. No price change has been reported over the past week with the tonne box of rooster trading at €530. Stocks of Queens are now fully gone and queens are running scarce at supermarket level also. Meanwhile in the UK, most growers now having finished lifting, and with crops in store, are monitoring price movements.
