Pig price held stable this week. Farmers are receiving quotes ranging from €1.44c/kg up to €1.48 or €1.46 – €1.50/kg for some this week.
Input costs such as feed, labour, and energy, have experienced levels of inflation which have driven the cost of production up significantly. This week feed prices have taken yet another increase. Pig farmers are reporting additional costs for feed alone of 30c/kg dead weight currently.
African Swine Fever (ASF) is indeed one of the main threats to farmers in mainland EU currently with some MS completely in the red zone with regard to ASF. However, EU pig meat prices experienced no major change again this week and the market prices seem to be regulating and stabilising. In order to stop the spread of ASF, all farmers must ensure to implement biosecurity measures that will enhance protection against ASF.
