Irish pig prices increased between 4 and 6c/kg on Friday last, with farmers reporting quotes of up to €2.28/kg from processing plants in Ireland.
Prices on the European market have increased this week again while Irish prices have also increased, there are significantly higher prices available in some MS. Prices across Europe are increasing over the past number of weeks and recent price increases include France €2.84, Germany €2.28, Netherlands €2.14 and Spain €2.56. German cull sow prices are circa €1.70/kg+. The increases in prices are demonstrating a significant tightening of pig supply across Europe.
The weekly throughput for week ending 12th of March 2023 was 63919, of which 1822 were sows. The ROI weekly pig kill is running 11.4% below this time last year (Jan-Mar14th) which equates to 79,000 pigs less killed then in the same period last year. Live exports of pigs to Northern Ireland are also back 17%.
The average European Pig Price for week 9 was €2.27/kg according to the European Commission which represents a 10.8% on last month and 56.6% on prices for the same week last year.
