Pig Market ReportsPigs

Pig Market Update 23rd October

There was no change to Irish pig prices on Friday last. Producers are reporting quotes ranging from €2.14 – €2.18 available from processors in ROI as Irish pig producers resist further drops in price. In Northern Ireland and the UK prices for UK pigs are strong. The SPP (Standard Pig Price – no premium) in the UK reported by AHDB currently is £2.04/kg (€2.45/kg), while the APP (All Pig Price)  average price for all pigs is £2.06/kg (€2.48/kg).

In ROI the throughput for week ending the October 20th  was 64,5794 of which 1,925 were sows.

Wheat futures for the 2025 crop are rising compared to 2024 due to poor weather conditions in key regions. Russia, Ukraine, and France are facing challenges with winter crops, including delayed sowing due to heavy rains. France, after its wettest September in 25 years, has sown significantly less soft wheat and winter barley compared to historical averages.

Argentina and southern Australia may also experience dry weather, potentially boosting wheat prices.
