There was no change to Irish pig price on Friday last with producers reporting quotes ranging from €2.08 – €2.12 available from processors in ROI. The SPP (Standard Pig Price – no premium) in the UK reported by AHDB currently is £2.03/kg (€2.44/kg), while the APP (All Pig Price) average price for all pigs is £2.058/kg (€2.47/kg).

The EU average price for week 46 for grade E carcass was €1.934/kg excluding vat.  This represents a drop of -3.4% over the past month and is -8% behind last years EU average price for the same week. There has been little change to EU pigmeat prices over the past few weeks.

At a working party meeting this week, attended by IFA’s Pigs & Pigmeat Chairman, Roy Gallie, it was evident from those representatives present from Member States that ASF is currently the number one concern for most of these pig farmers.

According to the latest report from Agritel, Donald Trump’s plan to impose a 25% tax on Mexican imports is unsettling the U.S. corn market, as Mexico is a major buyer of U.S. corn and raises fears of retaliation.

In response, corn futures in Chicago saw strong selling yesterday, while soybean sales were lighter, and wheat futures were bought.
