PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Report 25th September

Consumption was subdued for the past week following the hot weather conditions. To date this year consumption has been strong, with recent data from Kantar showing that sales in terms of value and volume have increased.

Growers are continuing to report that yields are disappointing, especially on later planted crops. This is not surprising given the extremely late planting season this year. It will be another few weeks before significant volumes are lifted into store especially north of Dublin.

In the U.K. harvesting into store is progressing well in the west and the midlands but in eastern areas up to Yorkshire, soils are now very dry and despite irrigation before lifting, bruising is a major issue. In Scotland, very little lifting of maincrop into store has taken place, compared to “25%” this time last year.
