Retail demand and consumption have seen a bounce as colder weather conditions have set in. There is increased demand for peeling produce also as the food service sector is ramping up in the lead up to Christmas. Some pressure has come on price as harvest was timely this year, however, yields are reported to be average, especially on later planted crops.
Across Northern Europe, the need to clear problem lots in store is weakening the market trend, although prices are unchanged. Breakdown issues with late planted, late lifted crops are reported to be on the increase. Dry samples are firm and some higher values are reported this week. In terms of seed, the market is very tight again this year and where stocks are available, buyers on repeat order are being prioritised. Export demand from the Canaries is reported as “steady” by some buyers and “very good” by others.
