Retail demand and home consumption remains strong as we approach a bank holiday weekend. In relation to plantings, many growers in the northeast of the country are nearing completion, however, progress is much slower in the south and south east of the country. Heavy thunderstorms have halted progress in some areas once again.
Plantings have been very disrupted across Europe this season also. Planting is nearly complete in France and Germany but heavy rainfall has again restricted progress in Belgium where the estimates last week put total plantings at 40%. In Holland, planting progress was 75 to 80% at the end of last week but there has since been 20 to 80mm of rain in central areas.
