PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Update 31st July

Demand has taken a slight hit with warmer weather this week and with the holiday season in full swing. More quantities of Queens are now available which is alleviating supply. Good quality and yields are being reported. Growing conditions for main season crops have been good lately but development is very variable depending on planting date. Crops are about three weeks behind normal years.

In the U.K., contract movement of whites is keeping up with crop growth and there is good demand for free buy. Some buyers have moved over to dual purpose varieties including Panther to cover demand. Full skin set is becoming a priority. First reds are unlikely to be ready before the end of the first week in August but warmer weather forecast for next week should help skin set.
