PotatoPotato Market Reports

Potato Market Update 6th November

Growers continue to harvest this week, and many are seeing the end in sight for harvest 2024. In general weather and ground conditions have been favourable for this season’s harvest. Over 80% of main potato crop harvest is now complete. Once again growers are reporting that yields on late planted crops are significantly less than last year. With such a shortage of old season crop towards the end of last season and reduced yields this year, there will be a market for every potato harvested this year.

In the U.K. for crisping varieties, overall clearance is put at north of 80%. In terms of markets, most movement is currently contract related but buyers for some of the main multiples have been looking for blocks of best quality free buy. Across Europe, export markets are reported to be quieter than they were last month, although there is good demand in France for Spanish potatoes and reports of light movement to Eastern Europe.
