IFA Call on Contractors Bam to Resolve Wexford Road Issues

IFA South Leinster Chairman Tom Short has called on international contracting company BAM to engage properly with farmers to resolve several issues which have arisen during the construction of the M11 Motorway in Co Wexford.

On Friday last, a farmer began a protest on the road by parking a trailer across a section of the new road. The farmer was joined by a number of their neighbours and local IFA members.

The protest is still in place and a number of farmers have gathered since 7am this morning.

IFA has had a number of meetings with the contractor BAM, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Wexford County Council in recent months in a bid to resolve matters, but the issues are not being addressed.

“The frustration of the local farmers has now boiled over and there is huge anger amongst the farmers on the route. Farmers have tried to work with the contractors BAM, but they feel they are being treated with contempt,” he said.

“BAM needs to change their approach on the ground and engage with the farmers before this dispute escalates further,” he said.
