National Count to Elect 14th President of the Irish Farmers’ Association
The National Count to elect the 14th President of the Irish Farmers’ Association will take place in the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin tomorrow (Tues), Dec 17th.
The two candidates looking to succeed John Bryan, whose term will end on January 14th, 2014, are South Leinster Vice President Jer Bergin and Deputy President Eddie Downey.
Jer Bergin farms in Ballacolla, Co Laois and Eddie Downey farms in Slane, Co Meath.
The Association’s National Treasurer JJ Kavanagh and Cork Central Farm Business rep Tim O’Leary are running for the position of IFA Deputy President.
Three candidates are contesting the position of Munster Regional Chairman. They are National Dairy Chairman Kevin Kiersey from Waterford, former Kerry IFA Chairman James McCarthy and former Limerick IFA Chairman Eddie Scanlan
IFA National Returning Officer Michael Keane said voting had been completed at branch AGMs on Friday last and the election process had gone very smoothly.
He said he was delighted with the strong turnout of members, who engaged fully on a wide range of issues of concern to their farm business.
He complimented the Returning Officers across the country who oversaw the election of the next President of the Irish Farmers’ Association.
The next President of IFA, along with senior officers, will take up his role on Tues, Jan 14th, 2014.
