Kerry Farmers Call for Return of Goodwill Payment
Speaking following a meeting of landowners affected by the N86 Dingle to Camp proposed road scheme Kerry IFA County Chairman James Mc Carthy said “farmers are outraged by the Government’s decision not to recognise the access and co-operation that they have provided to date and the move by Kerry County Council to withdraw the goodwill payment.”
IFA Roads Project Team Chairman Jer Bergin said “IFA has written to the Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar and have sought an urgent meeting to resolve the issue.” While acknowledging the Council’s willingness to work with landowners, he said the decision to remove the goodwill payment was a “short-sighted decision that will cause unnecessary delays and add further costs to the project because the Council will have to take possession of the lands at an earlier stage.”
Landowners affected by the project are required to have all objections to the project lodged by the 22nd of February with Kerry County Council and IFA is advising all landowners to ensure that they engage a professional and competent agronomist and valuer and submit robust objections.
