I have no doubt you are all very aware of the growing refugee crisis that has developed due to the Russian invasion into Ukraine.
There are large numbers of people starting to arrive in Ireland and some are being housed in Kilkenny. 50 people arrived last night with another 50 due today. There is a serious shortage of accommodation which is a significant challenge.
Most of these people are women with children who arrive with very little personal items. As part of our involvement in the community resilience forum both Kilkenny IFA and Kilkenny GAA have been asked to reach out to our members to see can we provide “care packs” for these unfortunate refugees.
They are looking for 3 different types of packs:
Welfare
Toys for under 5s
Toys for over 5s.
Please share and coordinate this this at branch level. We will arrange a drop off point for these items in coming days.
Thanking you in advance for your support.
Jim Mulhall, IFA Kilkenny Chair.
