IFA Regional Meetings Kick off in Cavan

The first in a series of IFA regional meetings will take place in the Errigal Hotel in Cootehill this evening.

It will cover the Ulster/Nth Leinster area which stretches from Dublin to Donegal and takes in the midland counties of Longford and Westmeath.

The meeting will also be attended by IFA President Francie Gorman, IFA Director General Damian McDonald, Director of Policy Tadhg Buckley and a speaker from Bord Bia in relation to the review of the QA schemes.

The meetings will be chaired by the relevant IFA regional chair and will be opened by IFA President Francie Gorman.

IFA’s Director of Policy Tadhg Buckley will present on his analysis on the cost of doing business and farm incomes.

Speaking ahead of the first meeting, IFA Ulster/Nth Leinster regional chair Frank Brady said the meeting is a valuable opportunity for officers on the ground to get an update on current campaigns.

“It will also allow them to give feedback on the issues that matter to farmers. I would encourage as many farmers as possible to attend to participate in the discussion.”

Bord Bia will have a representative at the meeting in relation to plans to revise the current Quality Assurance Schemes that operate across all commodities. Frank Brady said this is a very important issue for farmers.

“Those who attend will be able to put their view directly to Bord Bia. This will be very helpful in shaping whatever changes are planned,” he said.
