What is the Tillage Incentive Scheme?

Awaiting details of the 2023 scheme to be published.

The Tillage Incentive Scheme (TIS) is a support measure for farmers to incentivise the increase in the eligible tillage crops in 2022 to reduce the dependency on imported feed material.

How to Qualify

Farmers can prepare for the scheme by declaring the eligible crops- barley, wheat, oats, rye, oilseed rape, maize, beet – on their 2022 Basic Payment Scheme online application. The Department will write to eligible farmers in June 2022 inviting them to apply for the scheme.

There are two key eligibility requirements:

  • There must be an increase in the total tillage crops grown on the holding in 2022 versus 2021.
  • The land on which the additional eligible crops are grown for this scheme must have been in grassland or one of the other non-tillage crops listed below in 2021.

A sample of scheme applicants are selected for inspection each year.

You must comply with the conditions of the Tillage Incentive Scheme.

Rates of Payment

You will be paid €400 for each eligible hectare.

Payments are likely to commence in December 2022.

If you do not meet all of the conditions of the scheme you may receive a reduced payment or no payment.
